North East Counties Track and Field Championship – Middlesbrough – 11th/12th May

This was a brilliant Championship by all of the North Shields Poly athletes which sets them up for a great season ahead. 30 Athletes took part across the ages, winning 23 Medals ( 8 Gold, 10 Silver and 5 Bronze ). In addition, 4 Club Records set, 22 Personal Bests achieved, 2 English Schools National Standards and 1 Championship Best record broken.

Superb weekend and now the details.

U13 Girls

70m Hurdles: Emily Bond – Silver Medal breaking her own Club Record in a Grade 1 Performance.

800m: Caitlyn Davies – 6th place and a 3 second PB.

Long Jump: Emily Bond – Bronze Medal and a PB in her first jump. Injury prevented her continuing but she will be back and we wish her a swift recovery.

 

U13 Boys

200m: Rhys Brunton – Silver Medal and a new PB in a Grade 2 Performance.

800m: Zac Brannon – Bronze Medal in his first track race over the distance.

Long Jump: Rhys Brunton – 4th Place in a competitive final.

 

U15 Girls

100m: Joanna Crulley – Silver Medal, equalling the Club Record and 0.28s outside the English Schools Entry standard. Lily Lee – 7th in the Final with a new PB.

200m: Joanna Crulley – Silver Medal with a new PB. Anna Fitzpatrick – 9th Overall, just missing out on a place in the Final.

800m: Holly Waugh – Silver Medal, Grade 1 Performance and just 0.45s outside the English Schools qualifying time, which she will attempt at next Monday’s BMC. Katie Joslyn – 6th place with a SB.

1500m: Holly Waugh – Silver Medal in a new PB and Grade 2 Performance. Katie Joslyn – 10th place in Final with a new PB. Willow Morris – 11th Overall in a SB.

3000m: Willow Morris –  Bronze Medal in her 1st attempt at the distance and a new Club Record. Gracie Davies – 6th place in a 30 second PB.

High Jump: Anna Fitzpatrick – Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion. 4cm added to her PB this year will give her English Schools entry standard.

 

U15 Boys

800m:  (a 1-2!)  Josh Blevins –  Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion in a new PB, Grade 1 Performance and Club Record. Zak Old –  Silver Medal in a new PB and Grade 2 Performance.

1500m: Josh Blevins –  Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion in a 10 seconds PB and English Schools qualifying time. Only 1 second outside the CBP after front running the majority of the way. Josh’s time briefly had him at the top of the UK rankings (he will be 2nd once Po10 is updated). Zak Old – Bronze Medal with a Grade 3 Performance and a SB.

3000m: Oliver Douglass –  Bronze Medal in a new PB.

 

U17 Women

100m: Lucy Errington – 6th Place in the Final amongst a very competitive age group, with a new PB. Quisha Graham and Charlotte Devitt took each other on for 6th and 7th in their Heat. Evie Perrett was 7th in her Heat with a new PB.

200m: Alicia Beverley – 7th Place in the Final in the same very competitive age group and with a good SB.

3000M: Kirsty Nash – Travelled really well but unfortunately had to pull out with a knee injury.

High Jump: Evie Perrett – Silver Medal adding to her range of medals from previous Championships.

Triple Jump: Lucy Errington – Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion. Just needs 33cm on this years PB for English Schools Entry Standard.

 

U17 Men

100m: Ollie Robinson – 5th in a new SB against some very strong sprinters.

1500M: Ryan Eden – In his first track race, never mind championship, Ryan finished 12th in a race where the first two were Junior Internationals.

Discus:  James Wordsworth – Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion in a massive new PB, Club Record, English Schools National Standard and breaking the previous Championship Best Performance. Moved him to No 1 in the UK but a Welsh thrower threw further in his Championship. We know James will go for revenge.

Shot: James Wordsworth –  Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion with a Grade 2 Performance.

 

U20 Women

200m: Stella Perrett – Gold Medal and NE Counties Champion to add to her Indoor 60m Title. Just 0.03s off English Schools Entry Standard which she is attempting to get to be selected for her 5th English Schools Championship.

 

U20 Men

100m: Robert Mole – 6th place with a good SB.

200m: Robert Mole – 6th place with a great new PB, 2 years in the waiting.

 

Senior Women

100m: Laura Mole – Gold Medal and NE Counties Champions to add to her Indoor 60m Title. To say she was surprised was an understatement but a great race. Kitta Hunter – Just missing out on the medals in 4th place, but a great run and performance as she recovers from a foot injury.

Senior Men

100m: James Mole – 4th Place, just out of the medals but a good SB. Paul Dodds – Our oldest athlete, but progressed to the final, finishing 6th with a SB.

200m: James Mole – 5th place in Final, again with a SB so progressing nicely.

Hammer: Dan Thirlwell – Silver Medal as he progresses to bigger things with his modified technique.

Discus, Javelin and ShotDylan Keville – Started season well with a Silver Medal in Javelin and 6th Place in both Discus and Shot. Dylan competes against Seniors using lighter weights due to his Disability classification, so great competition for him.

 

The athletes were great but also thanks to our Coaches, Officials and Parents for being on the journey with them. There was a great atmosphere at these Championships and we hope we can get even more taking part in future competitions.
