Sunday saw Spanish City Sprint Triathlon take place on our doorstep along The Links. A succesful day for NSP saw 3 podiums and a total of 19 athletes representing the club alongside a whole load of Poly marshalls and helpers.

The ladies race was won by Stephanie MacLean who finished 18th overall. After getting out onto the bike course in 2nd place, Steph ended the first bike lap at the front and stayed there, riding past my marshal point on the way back to T2 with a huge grin on her face. There was also another podium place for Cristina Tyley who finished 3rd in her age group behind a very strong pair of athletes. Getting on the podium is becoming a habit for one of our newest athletes.

The 12 men were led home, after a steward’s enquiry regarding the results, by Jimmy Anderson who finished in 14th place overall despite spending Saturday night not preparing properly for a race, shall we say. There was also a podium for Peter Clayton taking 2nd place in the V50 category.

Congratulations go to all those who took part and completed the closest race to home we are ever going to get.

Reports and pictures from the junior events which took place immediately following the adult race can be found over on our sister page NSP Junior Triathlon.

Many thanks must go to Alan Copland and Embrace Sport for saving this race when it looked like it was going to go the journey.

Same weekend, same place next year folks.
