The first meeting of NEYDL was at a very cold, extremely windy Middlesbrough on Saturday 29th April. Thus however, did not affect spirits nor performances from the 43 athletes who made the long visit down to the Boro.

Last year, alongside Team Manager Laura Mole, NSP Juniors dominated Division 2. It was now time for their second attempt at Division 1, alongside five other clubs across the North East.

Everybody was outstanding, with many stepping out of their comfort zones to help the team out with extra points. This later became vital in our successful attempt to position highly overall.

Most notably though was U15 Luis Adams, a NSP thrower who willingly volunteered to do a 800m for the team and impressively came 3rd in the B Race. Further, another remarkable contribution was from a national thrower and county distance runner, James Wordsworth and Tom Sursham respectively. Both of these U17 stepped up to help form a 4x100m relay team and did not disappoint, narrowly missing out on 3rd place. Next time eh?

There were many occasions like this, but too many to name.

Although Harrogate seemed to dominate overall, with their vast number of athletes, it did not stop us putting up a fight, along with Morpeth and New Marske. At recent look, we are positioned 4th which is a massive achievement, especially with some age groups lacking in numbers. Currently we are 10 points from 2nd place, showing how every event which you do contributes and why we ask you to fill as many as possible, even if that means trying new events.

Overall, the trip to Middlesbrough was a success and we can’t wait to see what will happen over the next three meetings. The next NEYDL is to be held at Churchill, Whitley Bay on Sunday 20th May. We’d love to see more of you there. Well done!
