The Race

The route follows a sometimes pathless course over East Hill, West Hill, Old Fawdon Hill and Cochrane Pike. From the start you must follow the marked footpath through the farmyard going East by the River Breamish to a guidepost which may be marshalled. Turn South here and go steeply up East Hill. Running on grass takes you SW to a gate between two stands of trees. This is the only way permitted through the forestry and it will be marshalled. Continue over West Hill to the trig point on Old Fawdon Hill. Descend down the grassy SW ridge aiming slightly right of a stand of trees to the Fawdon Burn and a gate. Ascend NW until you hit a wide farm track, turn SW along this for about 100m to a fence line, then go NW to the summit of Cochrane Pike. It’s all downhill from now. Turn ENE following a footpath that soon becomes a wide farm track. You must follow this to the finishing field and claim your soup.

The guidepost at the bottom of East Hill, the summits of East and West Hill, Old Fawdon Hill and Cochrane Pike must be visited and may be marshalled. Do not climb over any stone walls, fences or gates. Runners spotted doing this will be disqualified.

East Hill, West Hill, Old Fawdon Hill and Cochrane Pike are mandatory summits and may be marshalled. Do not climb over any stone walls, fences or gates. Runners spotted doing this will be disqualified. All gates will be open and marshalled. NO DOGS are allowed on the course or the start/finish field. This is grazing land and runners should be aware livestock may be present on the route.
